Who is the Hierophant? The Hierophant is the fifth card in most tarot decks. This card is sometimes renamed to The Mentor, The Pope, The Druid, The Teacher, or the High Priest. All good names for this card. The Hierophant is all about inspiration, guidance (usually spiritual, but other guidance works), goodness, tradition, and obedience. The Hierophant can't do it on their own, though. The Hierophant, much like your grade school teacher, can only present you with the information. It is up to you to absorb the information, tear it apart, question it, and make your own conclusion about what is being shown to you. What does it mean when it shows up in your tarot spread? Much can depend on where it is in the spread. Is it in a past position? It might tell you that you need to reflect on the traditions you’ve been taught. It might mean you’ve been hit over the head with this information before, and you aren’t paying attention! If it is showing up in a present position, perhaps what you are going through is another one of those “growth opportunities.” In a future position, it might be a sign that you must prepare yourself for what is coming by investigating what is happening now.

For those of you who read meaning into the reverse position of cards, the Hierophant in reverse can be a sign of turning your back on your traditions (this is not always a bad thing) or playing the part of the rebel.

What was our inspiration for this card’s colors? Many people instantly think of a teacher's desk when someone says the word teacher. That large, sometimes foreboding, wooden desk that commands the front of the classroom. That made up the first color in our palette. As we looked through our (many) decks, we found a common theme of red and gold throughout. We decided to add those to the brown we already had chosen and it made for a great collection.

The first thirty orders will get a special Hierophant stitch marker! And you know you want them all! (Limit one per order.)

While the mill states that some bases are machine-washable superwash yarn, this is a hand-dyed product. Our process ensures that the dye has been completely exhausted and the water runs clear during the final rinse. However, some bleeding may occur with different detergents and water quality. We suggest hand washing using a wool-safe wash such as Soak and drying flat or line drying.

All attempts are made to show our yarns as close to their actual colors as possible. Colors may vary depending on monitors and lighting. Some yarns (such as those on Mohair) will come out muted, and speckles will have more of a watercolor effect or have a sheen due to their fiber content. We do not accept returns except where the item arrives damaged. Our yarns come in a skein. We highly recommend using a swift and ball winder before working with the yarn. At this time we do not offer a ball winding service.

Some of our photos may show more than one skein; the price listed is for only one skein.
